Digital wallet or cash: what your family actually wants

Mobile wallets have changed how money moves in a lot of places. But "everyone uses an app now" is a story told mostly by people who use apps. The reality at home is often more mixed.

The case for wallets

If your family already uses a mobile wallet, sending straight to it is quick and clean. The money's there in moments, ready to spend, pay bills, or top up airtime. No trip, no queue, nothing to carry. For anyone comfortable with a phone, it's the smoother path.

The case for cash

Plenty of people still run their lives on cash. Older relatives, rural areas, markets that don't take digital payments. For them, cash pickup isn't a downgrade, it's just how money works. Forcing a wallet on someone who won't use it helps no one.

Let the receiver choose

This isn't really your call. It's theirs. Ask what they actually use, then send that way. A good service lets you pick per transfer, so you can do wallet for one person and cash for another without switching apps. For the fuller comparison, see cash pickup or bank transfer.

Moving money should feel like sending a text.
